Video Production in the Real World Much Different Than College

Before I actually began to work at Marietta Video Productions, I had an idea of how important internet videos were, but I was not aware of how popular and useful they have become for various businesses. I have always been in tune with technology, and it’s exciting to see how businesses are using this technology to help grow their customer base. Companies are using internet videos as a powerful and efficient means to connect with customers.

I was also surprised about how a video production company actually operates. I mean, initially I thought they would shoot video, edit the footage, and piece it together to create a final product. That’s how we do it in my college classes. But there’s a lot of work before the camera starts rolling. First, you have to find strategies to attract customers. Cold calling is part of that process, along with creating a dynamic web site and working to keep it optimized. Before working at MVP, I never even thought about the sales aspect.

Another thing I hadn’t considered is customer service.Video production companies aren’t selling a product, but a service. You actually have to take the client’s ideas and bring them to life, while staying within their budget and accomplishing their goals. To see that process completed from start to finish is very motivating for a novice like myself to want to work hard to acquire the skills, so that I can take on that role.

I’ve also seen how Marietta Video Productions, like many other video companies, has had to stay on top of this constantly changing technology. It’s no longer good enough to produce a great video, the video has to be seen by the intended audience. This is where e-mail marketing, search engine optimization, and social media come into play. You also have to make sure that people are able to view the video on various tablets and mobile devices. It’s also crucial that the video starts playing as soon as someone clicks on it. People won’t wait on videos to load any more. Another must – having a high quality, crisp video that looks as good as possible on the internet. So, the video has to be formatted correctly, and it’s usually streamed rather than downloaded. It’s also important to make sure it’s free of ads.

Another positive surprise for me is that each day is different. There’s no routine and no sitting in front of a desk. It’s fun and exciting to be out in the field shooting a project and then coming back and taking part in the editing process. I can say this is a job unlike any other, and for me it’s one that feels like a perfect fit. I get the chance to learn and grow and challenge myself everyday. It also doesn’t hurt that it’s a heck of a lot of fun. There’s nothing like seeing a project you work on come together and seeing the client’s excitement about it.
